The best thing about this camera is is design, which is nice. But kind of falls off past that. The Samsung Digimac V700 negatives is its slow shooting and image processing. It has mediocre quality on its pictures. Lastly, its performance in low is bad.

Fair camera, nice design.. but that’s it. I’d really suggest checking out another camera.

Slow shooting and image processing; mediocre image quality; merely average low-light performance.

The Samsung S850 Digital Camera is a good camera. This Samsung Digital Camera is 8.1 MP camera, and has a 5X optical zoom, as well as a 2.5 LCD display screen. It has generally received very good reviews.

The perks of this digital camera are the manual exposure controls, as well as the focus controls. The camera also has a quick shutter speed. Which is great, because this camera is one of the least expensive digital cameras on the market with manual exposure controls.

There are a few negatives for the Samsung digi camera. Its shot to shot time is a little sluggish. The manual focus is a little awkward. Also, the lamp-lit shots tend to be underexposed.

In reveiw though, the Samsung S850 Digital Camera is a solid option for photography newbies.

Now, the bad thing about this camera is its quality. Its what hops this camera back, and its rather disappointing. The pictures are noisy. There is no aperture / shutter priority with this camera. And shotting can be a little sluggish.

At the end of the past year Samsung updated the S850 digital camera with the S1050. The camera new camera comes complete with many great features. Some of the features of the Samsung S1050 digital camera includes a suite of manual controls for the more advanced among you, a 10-megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom lens, and a new large 3-inch screen.

A nice 10 MP Samsung Digital Camera

The good Build and styling, simple controls, AA-battery power, Low ISO image quality, Advanced manual control options.

The bad Sluggish AF performance, shutter lag, Cramped buttons, Excessive noise in ISO 400 and above images.

We say Samsung’s update of the S850 looks very tempting package on paper but it has some serious issues when you come to use.

Samsung S1050 Digital Camera Technical Details

* 10.1-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality 18 x 24-inch prints

* 5x Advanced Shake Reduction optical zoom; Display LCD - matriz activa TFT - 3″ - color

* Shutter speed to 1/2000 second; ISO equivalent to 1600

* Captures video in one of four resolutions, up to 20 fps at 800 x 600, encoded as AVI MPEG-4 video

* Stores images on SD memory cards (includes 50MB internal memory)

Manufacturer On Samsung S1050 Digital Camera

The S1050 is a point-and-shoot digital camera with a premium quality 10.1-megapixel image sensor. Coupled with a super-sharp 5x optical zoom lens, the S1050 combines the hardware that demanding photographers require of a camera with the intuitive ease-of-use that is Samsung’s hallmark.

While ease of use was a top priority when designing the S1050, Samsung engineers were equally committed to delivering a comprehensive suite of robust features and technologies in the flagship model of the S Series. With shutter speeds that reach up to an effective 1/2000 second and an ISO equivalent of 1600, users will be able to take advantage of the S1050’s speed and resolution in any situation–from taking landscape photos at dusk to shooting fast action sports photography. Further ensuring razor sharp images in any situation, Samsung’s ASR image stabilization system helps to reduce camera shake and image blur during longer exposures and at times when holding the camera steady is impossible or a tripod is unavailable.

The S1050 also offers Samsung’s Intelligent Face Recognition Technology, which detects the subject’s face and automatically adjusts autofocus and autoexposure to ensure the best possible image quality in portraits and other shots featuring people. The AF function instantaneously recognizes the faces of up to nine subjects and accurately focuses on them all. The AE function then takes over, setting the appropriate exposure to ensure the highest image quality.

Samsung equipped the S1050 with several thoughtful features designed to allow users to capture the images they want without having to worry about tedious exposure adjustment or editing. Dedicated modes for common-yet-tricky shooting situations include Children (with a high shutter speed to freeze motion while avoiding blur), Backlight (to compensate for a rear-lit subject), and Portrait (to bring the subject into strong focus while deemphasizing the background).

When enabled, the S1050’s Wise Shot feature automatically takes two consecutive pictures in rapid succession–one with ASR enabled and one with the flash–then prompts the user to review both and select their preferred version of the picture.

The S1050’s dedicated Effect button lets users quickly access a host of powerful in camera image effects, including conversion to sepia-tone, black-and-white, and RGB color effects. Images can be trimmed, resized, and rotated in the camera without the use of a PC and a built-in microphone allows a 10-second voice memo to be attached to any still image. Slide Show automatically scrolls through photos and displays them on the bright and vivid 3.0-inch TFT LCD screen, which uses Samsung’s Intelligent LCD technology to automatically detect environmental illumination and adjust LCD brightness for optimal image viewing.

Just as much attention was given to the S1050’s Movie mode, which lets users capture video in one of four resolutions, from 160 x 128 to 800 x 600, at 20 frames per second and encoded as AVI MPEG-4 video. Just as in still-picture mode, the ASR image stabilization system can be engaged to compensate for unwanted camera movement and subject blur in movie mode.

For maximum versatility, the S1050 can be powered by an optional high-energy rechargeable Ni-MH battery (not included–must be purchased separately), as well as available-everywhere AA alkaline cells, which is a surefire boon for travelers and other power users.

Learn more about batteries in our: Samsung Digital Camera Batteries

All of these features are contained in a sleek silver or black housing that measures a mere 3.9 inches (width) by 2.5 inches (height) by 1 inch (depth). Unlike other compact cameras, the S1050 features a molded, ergonomic grip that makes framing, steadying, and shooting a breeze. The included USB 2.0 cable, camera cradle, and CD-ROM containing Samsung’s Digimax Master software (compatible with Windows 98/2000/ME/XP and Macintosh OS X 9.2 through 10.4) will get even beginning photographers up and shooting right out of the box.

The S1050 contains 50MB of internal memory and can accept Secure Digital (SD) flash memory cards up to 4 gigabytes.

Samsung S1050 Digital Camera Description From Amazon

The Samsung S1050 is a high-resolution digital camera that is equipped with a true-color filtered 10.1 mega-pixel CCD. This allows the Samsung S1050 to produce even better images and take detailed photos for printing up to poster size with an optical 5x and digital 5x zoom. The Samsung S1050 has a 3.0-inch large LCD for improved contrast and color reproduction, allowing you to enjoy a wider and clearer image.

Understanding the battery for you digital camera is important. This page will outline some of the basic information you need to know to maintain battery health and to maintain the life of your Samsung Digital Camera Battery.

Battery Life

It is important to understand that different batteries for different models have different battery lives. Samsung Digital Cameras have varying features. Features such as LCD display, image stabilizer and autofocus will all drain a battery faster. It is a good tip to keep a space batter in your camera case, especially when you travel.

Traveling With Your Samsung Digital Camera

Since I mentioned traveling above, I thought I’d go ahead and cover this:

The charger for your Samsung Digital Camera can be used for any voltage between 100v and 240 V. If you’re in a country with a different shaped wall socket, you can use a converter.

How to Use you Samsung Battery Properly

Below are some tips to get the maximum life out of Samsung Digital Camera Batteries.
Be sure to use the proper charger for your type of battery.

Try to completely discharge you Samsung Battery before charging it.

Story the battery in the proper location. Your Samsung Camera Battery needs to be stored in a cool dry place. Do not store in a hot car or humid conditions. This can shorten the live of your rechargeable Samsung digital camera battery.

You can stick in a packet of silica gel, to help keep your batteries dry. Also consider storing them in your refrigerator

How Can You Charge Your Battery

If you Samsung Digital Camera came with a cradle, it can be used to charge the battery. If not, you can use a standard 24-pin mobile phone charge or connect the camera to your PC via the USB port. Either method is fine to charge the built-in Samsung Camera Battery.

Information on Samsung Batteries

Batteries are divided into two groups:

i. Non-Rechargeable

ii. Rechargeable.

Common non-rechargeable batteries include: mercury, manganese alkaline and lithium batteries.

Rechargeable batteries include: Ni-Cd, Ni-Mn, Lead/Acid, Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer type batteries.

The battery voltage depends on the source of energy.

Manganese Duracell, Alkaline: 1.5V,

Silver Oxide 1.55V

Zinc Air 1.4V

Ni-Cd, Ni-MH 1.2V
Lithium ion: 3.0V

If batteries are connected in a series circuit, the voltage (V) is increased; and if connected in a parallel circuit, the current (A) is increased.

The main difference between manganese and alkaline batteries is the electrolyte.
Alkaline batteries sell at about double the price of the manganese type, but they last 3 or 4 times longer than a manganese battery.
Alkaline batteries are suitable for devices requiring high power such as an RC car, portable cassette player, electric shaver, beeper, etc.
Manganese batteries are suitable for a device requiring continuous normal power such as a remote controller, clock, etc.

Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries, the most common and robust rechargeable type, have a voltage of 1.2 volts and are suitable for cordless telephones, RC cars and small portable devices.

Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni -MH) batteries are superior to Ni-Cd batteries but inferior to Li-ion batteries, and are made in individual manufacturer’s sizes. They are used in Walkmans, digital cameras, notebook computers, and camcorders, and when the Li-ion battery stabilizes, they will take over from Ni-MH batteries except in some special devices. Ni-MH battery voltage is 1.2V and they are usually mixed with Ni-Cd batteries in use. They have double the capacity of Ni-Cd batteries.

iRecommended batteries for DSC

i. Usually, Ni-MH and Li-ion batteries are recommended in digital cameras, MDR, CDP, etc.
Ni-MH batteries come in AA size, but Li-ion does not. You cannot buy Li -ion batteries individually, since they are equipped with circuit controllers due to the stabilization problem.
A standard sized Li-ion battery will be produced when the stabilization problem is solved, as it was for Ni-MH.

Some Samsung compact digital cameras use standard “AA” size batteries for power.
There are several types of these batteries on the market, and while they are all the same size, the chemistry used varies greatly, affecting how long they can be used to power cameras.
Standard Alkaline batteries show a steady decline in power over their usable life; this is fine for low-drain devices like flashlights and radios, but high-drain devices like cameras need a minimum level of power to operate. When batteries drop below this minimum level they can no longer power a high-drain device, even though they may still have plenty of power for low-drain devices.

The graph below illustrates this. The red line represents the minimum power required for the camera, while the blue line shows the “power curve” for standard Alkaline batteries. Notice how the battery output quickly drops below the required line. The green line shows the power curve of a Ni-MH battery. These batteries have high output over the life of the battery and then quickly fall off. The chart below is for illustration only and does not represent actual test data. NO GRAPH!

Types of rechargeable battery and usage

Use the same type of cell-Cells that are used together must have the same size, capacity, type, manufacturer, features, etc., and if possible have the same serial number and receptive capacity.

When cells are sold in pairs or packs, they should be used together to extend their duration. Occasionally, you may experience a shortening of battery duration, even when they consist of the same type of cell. To extend the duration of these packs, you have to check the recharging time. If cells with different charge status are used together, you should check the charging status of each individual cell.

Batteries that are used for the first time, or are not used for a long time, should be controlled.

Batteries or cells that are used for the first time after purchase may have hardened electrolytes due to long storage time. This is called “Crystallization”. Crystallized cells have an irregular receptive capacity, and may result in a different recharging capacity for each cell. This is called “Inequality of charging”.—- Don’t charge unequal batteries or batteries that have not been fully discharged over their receptive capacity in fast charge mode.

Don’t over-discharge cells connected in series. Occasionally, cells connected in series are discharged to under 1.0 V to avoid inequality of charging; this causes permanent damage.

Don’t over-charge batteries. Use a charger that has a charging status indicator.

Don’t over-discharge batteries. Do not use batteries after a low power message.

A 2.7″ LCD ensures a clear view during photography and playback. The 5x optical zoom carries over to the N11’s video capture mode. NV series has an auto sensitivity feature that automatically adjusts according to the ambient exposure conditions-up to ISO 1600. The high-sensitivity ISO 1600 setting enables you to take clear indoor pictures in dim conditions without camera shake and the resulting image blur. Access your pictures quickly and easily at any time thanks to an innovative new user interface.”
