Understanding the battery for you digital camera is important. This page will outline some of the basic information you need to know to maintain battery health and to maintain the life of your Samsung Digital Camera Battery.
Battery Life
It is important to understand that different batteries for different models have different battery lives. Samsung Digital Cameras have varying features. Features such as LCD display, image stabilizer and autofocus will all drain a battery faster. It is a good tip to keep a space batter in your camera case, especially when you travel.
Traveling With Your Samsung Digital Camera
Since I mentioned traveling above, I thought I’d go ahead and cover this:
The charger for your Samsung Digital Camera can be used for any voltage between 100v and 240 V. If you’re in a country with a different shaped wall socket, you can use a converter.
How to Use you Samsung Battery Properly
Below are some tips to get the maximum life out of Samsung Digital Camera Batteries.
Be sure to use the proper charger for your type of battery.
Try to completely discharge you Samsung Battery before charging it.
Story the battery in the proper location. Your Samsung Camera Battery needs to be stored in a cool dry place. Do not store in a hot car or humid conditions. This can shorten the live of your rechargeable Samsung digital camera battery.
You can stick in a packet of silica gel, to help keep your batteries dry. Also consider storing them in your refrigerator
How Can You Charge Your Battery
If you Samsung Digital Camera came with a cradle, it can be used to charge the battery. If not, you can use a standard 24-pin mobile phone charge or connect the camera to your PC via the USB port. Either method is fine to charge the built-in Samsung Camera Battery.
Information on Samsung Batteries
- Batteries are divided into two groups:
- i. Non-Rechargeable
- ii. Rechargeable.
- Common non-rechargeable batteries include: mercury, manganese alkaline and lithium batteries.
- Rechargeable batteries include: Ni-Cd, Ni-Mn, Lead/Acid, Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer type batteries.
- The battery voltage depends on the source of energy.
- Manganese Duracell, Alkaline: 1.5V,
- Silver Oxide 1.55V
- Zinc Air 1.4V
- Ni-Cd, Ni-MH 1.2V
Lithium ion: 3.0V
- Ni-Cd, Ni-MH 1.2V
- If batteries are connected in a series circuit, the voltage (V) is increased; and if connected in a parallel circuit, the current (A) is increased.
- The main difference between manganese and alkaline batteries is the electrolyte.
Alkaline batteries sell at about double the price of the manganese type, but they last 3 or 4 times longer than a manganese battery.
Alkaline batteries are suitable for devices requiring high power such as an RC car, portable cassette player, electric shaver, beeper, etc.
Manganese batteries are suitable for a device requiring continuous normal power such as a remote controller, clock, etc. - Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries, the most common and robust rechargeable type, have a voltage of 1.2 volts and are suitable for cordless telephones, RC cars and small portable devices.
- Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni -MH) batteries are superior to Ni-Cd batteries but inferior to Li-ion batteries, and are made in individual manufacturer’s sizes. They are used in Walkmans, digital cameras, notebook computers, and camcorders, and when the Li-ion battery stabilizes, they will take over from Ni-MH batteries except in some special devices. Ni-MH battery voltage is 1.2V and they are usually mixed with Ni-Cd batteries in use. They have double the capacity of Ni-Cd batteries.

- i. Usually, Ni-MH and Li-ion batteries are recommended in digital cameras, MDR, CDP, etc.
Ni-MH batteries come in AA size, but Li-ion does not. You cannot buy Li -ion batteries individually, since they are equipped with circuit controllers due to the stabilization problem.
A standard sized Li-ion battery will be produced when the stabilization problem is solved, as it was for Ni-MH. - Some Samsung compact digital cameras use standard “AA” size batteries for power.
There are several types of these batteries on the market, and while they are all the same size, the chemistry used varies greatly, affecting how long they can be used to power cameras.
Standard Alkaline batteries show a steady decline in power over their usable life; this is fine for low-drain devices like flashlights and radios, but high-drain devices like cameras need a minimum level of power to operate. When batteries drop below this minimum level they can no longer power a high-drain device, even though they may still have plenty of power for low-drain devices. - The graph below illustrates this. The red line represents the minimum power required for the camera, while the blue line shows the “power curve” for standard Alkaline batteries. Notice how the battery output quickly drops below the required line. The green line shows the power curve of a Ni-MH battery. These batteries have high output over the life of the battery and then quickly fall off. The chart below is for illustration only and does not represent actual test data. NO GRAPH!

- Types of rechargeable battery and usage
- Use the same type of cell-Cells that are used together must have the same size, capacity, type, manufacturer, features, etc., and if possible have the same serial number and receptive capacity.
- When cells are sold in pairs or packs, they should be used together to extend their duration. Occasionally, you may experience a shortening of battery duration, even when they consist of the same type of cell. To extend the duration of these packs, you have to check the recharging time. If cells with different charge status are used together, you should check the charging status of each individual cell.
- Batteries that are used for the first time, or are not used for a long time, should be controlled.
- Batteries or cells that are used for the first time after purchase may have hardened electrolytes due to long storage time. This is called “Crystallization”. Crystallized cells have an irregular receptive capacity, and may result in a different recharging capacity for each cell. This is called “Inequality of charging”.—- Don’t charge unequal batteries or batteries that have not been fully discharged over their receptive capacity in fast charge mode.
- Don’t over-discharge cells connected in series. Occasionally, cells connected in series are discharged to under 1.0 V to avoid inequality of charging; this causes permanent damage.
- Don’t over-charge batteries. Use a charger that has a charging status indicator.
- Don’t over-discharge batteries. Do not use batteries after a low power message.
